FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
1. How do I start?
First, READ THIS WEBSITE and become familiar with the rules. The setting for Hawthorne is very specific, as far as setting and writing goes, and if you do not take the time to read the information on these pages, you will probably get ignored in the room.
2. I was told that my character was not appropriate for Hawthorne. Why?
Hawthorne has a certain theme and time setting (horror, modern day). Not every imaginable character concept fits within this context. For example, high fantasy characters (D&D, elves, dragons) and pop anime characters (Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z, Fushugi Yugi) should be kept to other WBS rooms. Check here for supported character types. If you are uncertain if your concept will work in the room, email the room owner and just ask. Don't be offended if the room owner tells you that a specific character doesn't fit in the scope of Hawthorne; it's not a personal attack.
3. Why shouldn't I just jump and start roleplaying immediately?
Don't just jump right in and try to roleplay unless you are sure of our writing style and setting. We suggest you watch roleplay in the room first until you are comfortable with how it's done.
4. I was told my roleplay style was not appropriate for the room. Why?
This is a creative writing RP room. This means that you must write, not use asterisks or tildes, and have posts that consist of more than one line. If you need help with that, please look at our article on Good Roleplay Writing.
5. How is room staff to be treated?
Listen to the moderators, Admin and Greeters. If they tell you to change something about the way you post or that you cannot go to a certain location, respect their wishes.
6. I tried to roleplay at a location and was told I couldn't go there. Why?
Don't go into a location you are unsure about it or don't know what it is. Ask someone first. Some locations are locked to the general public. If you're unsure as to what these are, ask someone in the room.
7. Why was I ignored when I tried to jump into a scene?
If you want to jump into a scene, please ask first to make sure that your character will fit into the scene, and to make sure it's open to others.
8. I can't get anyone to roleplay with me!
Don't beg for roleplay - it only angers most of the others.
9. Why was I told to shut up OOC'ly?
The room rule is to keep OOC to a minimum when the room is full (over 20 people). This prevents confusion amongst those who are roleplaying and prevents everyone from being irritated by constant scrolling. This is a roleplay room, not an OOC room.
10. I'm not sure where my character might fit in. How do I find out?
Feel free to PM (Private Message) the Admin, Moderators or Greeters if you would like more information on the room or how your character might interact with other characters or storylines within the room.
11. I don't want to worry about creative writing or any of that. I just want to roleplay!
If that's the case, you can visit our companion room, Downward Spiral. To get there, type in the word Spiral in the Private Realms box from WBS' portal page.
