The Season of Nightmares"Man must be prepared to accept notions of the cosmos, and of his own place in the seething vortex of time, whose merest mention is paralyzing. He must, too, be placed onguard against a specific, lurking peril which, though it will never engulf the whole race, may impose monstrous and unguessable horrors upon certain venturesome members of it."

One day Matti Pääkkönen, an architect from Finland receaves a letter. Well actually it is his Italian wife Abriella who gets the letter. The letter is from a lawer of Abriella's Uncle Luigi Azzolin. Luigi has died and left all his possessions to Abriella. Abriella remembers the stories told about his strange uncle, Luigi was cast a way from the family after he returned to Italy from his travels to the far-East. Luigi left with a ship when he was still a boy and returned years later with a small fortune and a black servant. Rumours of black rites, pagan icons and other grim things circled around Luigi and the other twelve ship members who returned, what had happened to the other sailors? was asked by the locals. Anyway Luigi moved to US and was never hear from again. Abriella herself had never seen her Uncle but thought that because she was also somekind of a outcast of the family, Luigi left everything to her.
There was a condition to claim the heritage, Abriella should travel to US to meet with the lawer. When Abriella got sick, it was desided that Matti should travel to US to meet with the lawer.
At the office of Bernstein & Litowitzin law firm in Boston Matti was given the papers by Mr. J.Bernstein.
What Abriella had inherited was a mansion with large estate north of Boston near Kingsport, and all the personal property and assets found from the estate.
Matti was instructed to take the train to Kingsport, a small city by the ocean... and then try to get some transportation to the Azzolin Mansion...
You take the train and arrive to Kingsport... from there you get a wagon to the farm close to the mansion... as you approach the mansion you notice someone working in the garden.. an old black man.. you also see the mansion and WOW! it is nice.
Matti:
*I walk to garden and lift my hand to shake the man`s hand*
"Good afternoon"
"I am Mr. Pääkkönen, the new owner of this house"
"And you are?"
"eeerrr.. Simon... Simon West... Sir.. the caretaker.."
*Shakes your hand*
"Who.. who were you... the new owner.. I thought Miss Azzolin was the new owner..."
*Smiling*
"Well, she`s my wife and whe share everything"
*Big, wide smile*
"So, have you been caretaker for a long time, Mr. West?"
*He takes one step to the mansions direction*
"Should we go inside, then you could should me the mansion"
"Im interested to see, how it`s planned"
Simon asks you for any papers to prove your ownership to the estate and then shows you in to the mansion... Simon lights some candles and a huge fireplace... he tells you he lives in a small house in the estate... you have little time to look around and Simon shows you the most important things.. You think to your self that you have lots to explore later... you prepare to sleep in the old master bedroom and wonder all the strange things in the room.. it seems Luigi collected lots of stuff on his journeys.. most of the art objects are totally unfamiliar to you.
You wake up in the night.. a strange light shines through the curtains of the bedroom window.. you get up and walk to the window.. there is a fullmoon and and the view is magical.. the window opens to the ocean that is covered my mist.. you turn around and notice that one of the strange art object of Luigi, a silvery globe is pulsating with a pale light.. you walk down the stairs and grap a bathrobe over your shoulders.. you walk through the house to the door and to the yard...
*Before I go outside of the House, I take a bottle of vodka and put it in my bathrobe`s Pocket.*
the mist covers the ground and shines in the moonlight.. you walk through the yard to the pier and to the very end of it... there you admire the strange view... though it is night it is still warm enough for you to stay on the pier for a while... after a while you start to see something approaching from the ocean.. it is an old wooden ship... The ship stops by the pier... the crew is wearing mediaeval clothes...
*A Tall man steering the vessel waves to you.*
"Hoi there!"
*Then, when I am at the pier, I yell.*
"Hi there!"
"I have a bottle of vodka, would you like to join my celebration of my new mansion!"
*He seems to beckons you to come aboard his vessel*
He has large grey beard..
a bridge is lowered to the pier.
*I go onboard.*
*And smile to the man*
"O-Hoi! I`m Matti Pääkkönen"
you go aboard and the ship starts to leave to the ocean... the Captain indroduses him self as the Captain...
"So where are you heading my friend Matti?"
*Captain asks and takes a gulp from the bottle.*
*As you take the bottle back you notice it looks a little different.. the bottle looks handmade and label has changed also..*
*as the land disappears you feel strangely safe aboard this strange ship*
*Captain turns to you*
"Eh, I am hungry... care for some chow?"
*Drinking the remaining vodka. A assume, that me&captain have succesfully emptied the bottle*
"Sure, I`d like to eat somethin too, shall we go right a way?"
*Captain gives the helm away and walks down to cabins*
*The food is good and the Captain offers you some Belnerean Wine that tastes just heavenly.. though you have never heard of Belnerea..*
*after the food Captain shows you around the ship.. it has two masts and long rows of oars... after the indroduction he tells you he will take a nap.. he shows you to a empty cabin and tells you you can use it...*
You wake up and hear shouting from the deck. you walk to the deck... there is a lonely boat in the sea.. as the ship approaches the boat you notice people in it.. they seem all dead... the ship stops by the boat and one of the crew members is lowered to the boat..
"They are alive Captain!"
*the man shouts*
All the seven uncontinuous bodies are lifted to the ship and carried to one large cabin... it seems they have been in the boat for many days...
The Captain asks Matti to look after the uncontinuous people.
One by one the rescued people start to wake up in a dark room lit by few candles... A strange creaking sound can be heard , and they assume they are in a ship.. a young man wearing a robe is sitting in a chair by them, he seems to be sleeping... everybodies clothes have been changed and they have been cleaned and healed also...
John:
First things first: If there's water (of something) at hand I'll help myself to a cup or two (assuming I'm still thirsty), then I'll go through my pockets to see if I still have all my stuff (if not, I try to see where they might have been taken to).
you see some bags near the beds and examine them. you find thing that resemble yours, but they are not exactly the same anymore.. all the things seem to be changed to the most equal thing from the medieval times
Jesus:
*I´ll check my stuff and take a good look around.*
John:
*Holding his "used to be" lighter in his hand, muttering*
"Oh goodie! Now what the hell am I supposed to do with these bleedin' rocks...Oh well..."
*Pocketing my stuff...or what's left of it*
*Making sure all the "partymembers" are awake, and if not, then waking them up, not ungently, then approaching the robed guy*
*Shaking him awake*
"Morning lad. I know this may sound a bit ungrateful to you, but is there any food hereabouts? We are famished. And while you are at it, mind tellingbme where we are? This boat *Knocking the wooden hull* sure doesn't look like one you'd use this far from the coast..."
Matti wakes up ans tells what he knows... well actually nothing, he's been drunk during the whole trip and doesn't remember much... After eating Matti turns to go to the deck to get the Captain.
Before Mr. Pääkkönen can leave, the door opens.. you see a tall man with a long grey beard wearing medieval clothes..
"Ah! you have awaken.. good... I am the Captain, Welcome to my ship... you seem to be recovering fast.. that is good.. Thank you Matti for looking after these people.... Now you might like to come to the deck, for you have been down here for few days.."
*Captain smiles to you*
John:
*Smiles pleasantly, the effect somewhat spoiled be crumbs of food in his stubble*
"Ah, Captain. Guess you are to thank for saving our sorry asses, eh?"
*Shaking his hand*
"I owe you one, mate, and a Constantine always pays his debts. But could you tell us where we are and where we are heading?"
*Heading for the deck after the captain starts that way*
*Captain turns to John by the door*
"We are close to the Chalkstone Coast and we are heading South to the Mighty Seaport.."
*turns and leaves to the deck*
*The captain stops again*
"I am sorry I have to go to steer my ship.. If you have queations, see me on the deck"
*Matti goes to the deck and looks around*
*But first he asks the Captain, silently:*
"Where are we? How far away is my mansion?"
"Your mansion?... where is it?"
*Looking suprised"
"What are you saying. The place, where you and I meet"
"Kingsport, town of Kingsport"
"Ah! Kingsport the City in mist!... yep I have heard of it from some other travellers.. do you know Basil Elton and his grandson Nathaniel? decent lads they ar, indeed... haven't seen Basil in ages... Hmm. they tend the lighthouse there in Kingsport you know... "
*Captains face turs puzzled*
"Hmmm it seems you don't know what's happening... you should quit drinking rum so much.. You see you are no more in the world you call Earth.. you have entered the realm of dreams.. Yep mate this is Ynni the world of dreams... or nightmares mostly nowadays..."
*Captain stares at you Laughing*
"Haahaa haa you should see your face lad! .. well don't worry I can take you back if you want"
John enters the deck... it is an old wooden ship with a crew wearing medieval clothes.. there are two masts and rows of oar holes on both sides.. he can see Matti talking with the Captain who is steering the vessel..
John:
Looking around in case something intereting happens to cross me eyes, I'll make my way to the captain.
*To the captain, fumbling to fill my newfound pipe*
"So, captain. This port you mentioned... how far is it?"
*Glaring at the flint 'n steel as if wondering how in hell to lite a pipe with them, but still determined to give it a go*
"...and might we find there someone to explain how we got here? Lets face it, it's damned strange for us to suddenly end up in a place like this none of us have ever even heard about."
*The Captain turns to John*
"Well I just picked you up from the ocean... Where are you from?"
*Captain has the same strange accent as anyone else onboard the ship*
John:
*Giving the captain's medieval clothes a sidelong look*
*With dry humour*
"Ever heard of London, mate? Nice little city, population only a >little over 5 million or so..."
"Eh... Yep mate I have heard of London... met some dreamers from there also... You are from the waking world, as I just told Matti here... and now you are in the dream world.. a dream world for you, but reality for others.... so your home is far away... I can't help you, because it seems you are here by an accident.. if I take you back I don't know what would happen... this all might sound strange for you, but just wait, we will be arriving to Seaport in few hours"
John:
*With a disbeliefing look on his face*
"A dream, huh? So, are you saying we are physically in a dream, or that our minds dream as our bodies die of exposure? And if this is a dream, how do we wake?"
*Captain:*
"If I am correct you can't wake up... not before your bodies are in better condition.. I have seen this before... some powerful dreamers.. some of them called witches in your world, have entered this world at the time of their death... so if indeed your bodies die you will be safe here in this world I think... now you can only hope you will be saved in the waking world...."
John:
*Shocked, to say the least*
"So, mate, in other words we are dead or will be soon enough. And stuck here. Won't Father Bladus be overjoyed... life after death... oh boy..."
*To Matti*
"Suddenly, my scandinavian friend, the idea to get royally pissed just about now begins to sound better and better..."
"Yes, I have been looking some rum lately for your friends so how about..."
"Captain, do you have rum somewhere?"
yep ask from the kichen..
*To Captain, again, with a glimmer of hope in the eye*
"But those witches you mentíoned... they would be experts of these dream-thingeys, yes? Might they know something to enable us to return where we belong? And if so, where might we find some inclined to help? And do you know if time flows diffrently in here than in the... 'cuse me, *our* real world?"
Well there are many people who can help you... and I don't recommend the wiches, many of then were rightly burned alive for connections with the dark one and those who were innocent aren't so friendly to people from waking world anymore... you should ask people in Seaport.. maybe from the Churches and from the Wizards.. and if we compare the waking world time to the dream time it seems time here does not have meaning.. or atleast it different pace.. you might spend a week here and only few hours would have passed in your world..
*Finally managing to light his pipe, giving it a quick, victorious glance...soon puffing contentedly... as much as he's able just now*
"Well, if we're stuck here with no way out, we should at the least know something about this place... what can you tell me?"
well the times are bad.. you could call these the nightmare times... there was a Great Darkness that lasted for many years and since that everything has been going wrong.... there are many rumours what caused the darness but it is told that many gods were killed and born during the darkness... anyway the old civilizations in the south were destroyed in the chaos and the forces of darkness, the demons and undead are spreading to north.. every month we hear stories of burned down places and there are lots of refugees from south...
yep you will be surpriced to notice that humans are not the only race here.. etc etc...
*Father Baldus has been quiet, taking in his surroundings since he awoke. Checking to see if his roman coller is still present. Approaches the Captain.*
"Excuse me Captain... I couldn't help but notice that you are dressed in what seems to be midevil style costume. Also this ship seems to be a bit of a relic as well. And my companions clothes and items are now missing, replaced with other antiques. What exactly is going on?"
*thinks to himself, "well, if we are in the past, at least there won't be any damned protestants around."*
*************************************
place: old wooden ship
time: ?
weather: mild breeze... clear..
*************************************
the Captain reveals to you all the strageness of your situation... he claims that you are all dreaming... meaning that Matti is still in the mansion and everyone else is still in the boat sleeping/uncontinuous... He tells you all that this is the dreamland of earth, a place to which powerful dreamers and some wizard and wiches from Earth have been coming for ages... There are also visitors from another planes/dimensions, creatures usually not so friendly, beings of chaos and death, angels for some, demons for others.. Time here floats in different pace than in Earth, so usually when you leave, you just wake up from your bed in the morning, but for most of you it is different... you will be able to leave only when your bodies in the "real world" are in shape good enough to wake up... if your bodies in the "real world" die, you will be here untill your dream forms die.... *the captain smiles to you* "so now you know why you are wearing these clothes and why your things have changed... you see there is no modern technology from your world here... We will be soon arriving to the great city of Seaport... oh I almost forgot... if you get a strange feeling that it is time to go back to your world.. you know the feeling when you don't know if you are awake or still in a sleep, find me and I will take you back... . Any questions?"
Matti:
"Yes, how do you know all this?"
"Have you got somekind of control on this?"
"I mean, that you can send us back, if we want it?"
*The captain turns to the drunken Matti*
"I do not have any control over this.. I just can leave you back to the edge of your dream.. there are many ways to enter this world, gates and portals exist... The most common way to enter is by dreaming yourself to the cavern of flame... maybe you will travel to the enchanted forest and try to find the stairs to the cavern of flame, there is a way to your world..."
Pr. Pastorov blinks with puzzled expression on his face, then addresses the Captain: "Sir, still how do you know about the real world? Have you been there, or here, hm... whatever? And what makes you think we must believe you? That's impossible!!! Either I'm still dreaming, and all this is nonsense, or someone is playing a really nasty game with us. And what do you mean by saying that we can die in our dreams? Can't I simply make me awake (I guess, you will call it "to return to the real world") if I'm close to "death" in a dream? That's just ridiculous... For me it looks more like we have died already, and this is a afterlife.
*captain looks at Pastorov*
"Hmmm.. what ever... "
Strange, but I din't expect to face it yet."
Anikim looks around, and adds:
"Waves, medieval ship, clothes... This is pathetic, good sir! And where are angels or demons, depends on where we came to?" He laughs at his last words.
*Captains face turns emotionless*
"You will see the demons if you want... but I advice you to not invite such thing to you... not in here..."
I am assuming that Kevin is very drunk if not plastered at this point.
"You believe me to believe a word of this bullshit you are shpilling out?! Heck, you probably shtole are weaponsh and are now going to shell them! Now you tell me where are our gunsh? Where are our clothesh? And where the heck are we?!"
When he tells us the sme thing he said before I ask again more forcefully, and unless restrained the third time I make a move to attack him screaming "You shtupid b***h you don't know when to drop the sherade do you?!"
*The Captain dodges the attack and Kevin stumbles over a pile of ropes lying on the deck...*
"You better save your strenght, mate"
*Captain states calmly*
Kevin:"Shave our strength for what?" Kevin makes a move as if reaching for his gun, realises it it not there, and shakes his fist angrily at the captian. Kevin storms off. "You all realishe that is commie bastard is going to shell us all off to the chineshe for slave labor don't you?!"
John:
"Now, mate, just tell me this: if we can't wake up before our bodies heal, and as our bodies are still braving the seas in our jolly little boat and fast dying of exposure, what bloody use is some stairway to us? Our bodies die soon and there's nothing I can see that will save them... barring a full scale miracle."
*Spitting*
"So, why would we want to go back to dying bodies? Unless, of course, there's something we can do from here to help our bodies recover..."
*Captain*
"well there are others dreamers here also... maybe you can help yourself from here ... yes.."
*Taking a long pull of rum*
"The way I see it, we'll just have to do the best we can and think this as a new start. Can't really be worse than our own world..."
*Captain*
"well... uh."
Kevin:
"I can't believe you are all falling for this. Who would ever believe it? Besides you. This is the afterlife, this is our mind playing trick on us, this is some magical dram land PAH! He is a COMMIE and he is taking us to China or some other place to be sold as slaves, what other rational explination is there?!"
You stand on the deck with the others.
As you keep on arguing about the situation you are in, the ship continues on it's course.. and then someone shouts "Land!" you turn to look and see a dark shape in the horizon. after few minutes the ship turns so that the land is on your left side. after a half an hour the ship turns again, now back towards the land. You can make out a huge lighthouse, and then some tall towers.. after a while you begin to make out the buildings and palaces of a huge city... and as you close by you notice that everything is as in the medieval times. the ship halts at the harbour and the captain wishes you good luck.
**********************************
PLACE: Seaport harbour
TIME: About 3 pm.
WEATHER: few clouds in the sky, warm, light wind
AT THE SCENE: about 100 people doing their own business in the harbour, passengers of the old ship.
THE SCENE: there are four ships at the harbour and about 100 people. there are lots of noise here as many people are shouting at the same time, there are also few wagons and other thing moving and making noise. animals and other stuff are being carried in and out of the ships.
**********************************
*Matti Nods to the captain*
"And now, what are we doing?"
"Are you going to the city?"
*Captain:*
"I will just get some supplies and sail away."
*Matti:*
"What city this is?"
*Captain:*
"This is Seaport"
John:
*Shading his face with one hand while staring at the city...*
"Well folks, just try to calm down a little... soon we have proper ground under our feet again. Who knows, we might even find someone to help us."
*Muttering to himself*
"Doubt it, though... Things are never this easy..."
Generally getting ready to jump ashore as soon as we land... the promise of magic and those who wield it in the city is more than enough to keep Johnny-boy up and running...
"Amazing...", Anikim breaths out, and than continues, mostly to himself, than to anyone else on the deck, "...amazing. I still can't beleive my own eyes, but it is so real, so real. So many new things too see, so much to study and to try to understand, it is insane, but at the same time so wonderful."
"But how we are going to survive out there?! We don't have money, we have nothing... All that we have got is our memories and the clothes, kindly given to us by good sir Captain."
Kevin:
"What your letting us go?! I may have misjudged you good sir. Please no hard feelings?" *Holds his hand out for a hand shake*
*Captain shakes hands with Kevin*
"May the gods protect you on your journey my young friend"
*Captain glances at Father Baldus and tries to smile*
"Hmm... yes I was going to ...."
*Captain turns away, and continues giving orders to the grew*
*Matti Looking stunned*
"But, but, what about us?"
"Are you leaving us in here"
*Smiling bleakly*
"Can I least have some of that fine rum of your`s?"
*Captain turns to Matti as the ship docks*
"Well thanks to you the rum is one of the supplies I have to buy today"
*Matti Laughing*
"That must be true"
*Captain continues his work... the ship is now standing by the pier and some of the sailors jump out.. small children are waching the men work when they are startled by a strange being. A robed figure walks by them and hisses at them, you notice he/she has a snakes head.. the creature continues on it's way and disappears in the growd.. You are free to enter the city*
*Matti*
"Well, thank you captain and I hope that we meet again"
*I go to the pier*
Kevin:"Hummana, Hemana."*Jitters* "What that? See you just, thing!? Snake, guy. Yeah, big, scales, SNAKE!"
*Screaming and pointing, speach is broken by long pauses*
*jesus*
"would somebody please pinch me, i´d like to wake up now. This goes way over my understanding."
John:
Jumps ashore with the intention of seeing something of the city... but first I ask the captain for the name of a good inn, and suggest to the rest of our party that we could meet there later today. Then it's wandering aimlessly for a time, or at the least until something happens. If someone wants to tag along, it's OK by me.
Matti:
"Okay. Maybe I should go with you, so the possible risk would be smaller."
*Follow John.*
*jesus*
"Why don´t we go all together? I wouldn´t like to get lost in this strange place."
Johnathan McMiller scratches his head.
"I agree, it will be safer."
Kevin follows along wihtout a word. He neber starys more than a couple of feet from someone and tries his best not to get noticed.
OOC((Hmm, I wonder why? Snake people and the matter that we all have just died may have something to do with it))
Matti:
"Good idea. Let`s go together"
John:
"Thanks, mate. And if we happen to the same inn I'll be sure to buy you a pint or three. The least I can do to thank you."
*Suddenly remembers something*
"Me and my bloody head... at least we should pay for our trip. We seem to have some money, still."
*Hands out a random amount of coins*
"Not that I have the slightest idea what these bloody thingies are worth, just take what you think best. Never be said a Constantine doesn't pay his depts."
Captain:
"You don't owe me anything mate... "
*staring at the coins*
"But if you insist, I will use this money to buy some rum... it seems I could need more in the future" *Smiles*
"Thank you all, and take care of your selves"
*Again he turns to his ship.*
Matti:
*I follow him*
"Ok, can we go now. You can choose where, it´s same to me".
John:
As for the direction... aimless wandering seems as good as any, but still mostly heading towards the center of the city... After this "section" has been glanced through, perhaps that "Golden road" -area should be next.
*jesus* "Thats fine for me, i´ll follow."
So, a slight change of plans... As we wander through this docks area, let's look for one of those inns the captain recommended and go in to get a room for the night and to get rid of the extra luggage...
Matti:
"Hey, great idea. I must say, that they might have some great vine, or, well somekind of alcohol. I`m a bit thirsty now."
*Almoust running to the inn.*
"Let´s go in, shall we?"
John:
*With a disbelieving glance at Matti*
"Just what the hell is it with you and booze? Got a problem, have you?"
*Muttering, with further sidelong glances*
"... silly bugger... been drinking for God only knows how long and still can't stop for a minute..."
Matti:
*Looking surprised*
"What do you mean? I`m just thirsty, that`s all"
You make your way through the busy streets full of strange humanoid creatures. After a while you come to a building by a large market area. There is a old sign hanging above one door, it is a bleeding head of a ugly creature, there is a text "Orc's Head Inn" above the picture. There are few tables outside and a group of ruff looking warriors are sitting by one and a group of tall grey creatures are sitting by the other. These more than 7' tall creatures all have huge maces hanging from their belts. Their armours seem to be used in many battles.. While you stare aroung a slender man is thrown out of the Inn by another member of this grey race. "I see you again around my Inn and I will crush your skull!" the creature yells with a strange accent.... You deside to take a look at some other inn. You head to look at the Kukkiva Tölli Inn.... you find the Mermaid's alley quite easily and this inn seems much better for your nervous souls... the whole building is overgrown by strange vine full of colourful flowers. In front of the house three men are sitting by a table drinking beer. All of them seem to be short and roundish, two of them have long beards grey-brown clothes. They both have axes hanging from their belts. The third man is even shorter that the others, he has a colourful tunic and no shoes, you stare at his large hairy feet for a while, but then he seems to notice you staring and turns to you.
"Lost are you?"
*he places a pipe between his teeth*
"Hmmm?"
John:
*Trying to cover the continous amazement... he's supposed to have a near-perfect pocker face, after all...*
"Might be, might be... this a good inn?" *Nodding towards the inn*
"We had a rough trip, and a soft bed would feel just about right"
The smallest man:
"I don't know.... it's good enough for us!"
*The three men laugh*
"huh... a rough trip Eh?.. well have ye heard the time when me and my old palls went to steal the sword of Justice from the might Dragon Graamiliz?.. have you? ... it was a mighty magic item.. it was indeed... heh heh.. and the Dragon..."
*The other two men look at him*
"Aeh! we have heard your stories many times Mathias Foxtail.. and we don't want to hear again..."
*The smallest man seems disapointed*
"It is a good in.."
*says the other man*
"Come and talk with us after booking in... "
Matti:
"Hey, I would love to hear that story. Why dont`t you come with us, so you can tell the story and we can rest at the inn same time."
The three men look at you amazed...
"Eeeer what?"
*the men look at each other...*
"You want to rest and listen to some bedtime stories?"
"I think we just stay out here for now......"
*The men smile at drunken Matti*
*Looking a bit embarrassed*
"Eh, nevermind..."
*Leaving the men behind and going on*
Pressuming that Professor Pastorov was too astonned by the all these happenings, he was not talking at all, wand was simply following the rest of the party whereever they went. But at last he comes back to his senses at the Kukkiva Tölli Inn. Thus, when they head for the inn entrance after talking to small people with hairy legs, he says:
"My dear friends, we need to find some answers, and as soon as possible. Let's ask the bartender, hopefully he will explain what all this does mean. Well, I see that this is some kind of medieval city, but all these strange creatures -- snakeman, grey beings. It is just more than enough... at least for me."
*Kevin says not a thing, not wanting to draw attention to himself, He mumbels to himself every so often but you can't make anything out.*
*He has a nervious look about him and keep looking over his shoulder for signs of somthing, anything, inhuman following them*
They enter the inn with warm and welcoming feeling... A single large room has a long reception desk that turns into a bar desk at the other end. About ten tables take most of the space. few of the tables are taken. A huge unlit fireplace stands behind the bardesk, some old and rusty weapons are hunging above the mantlepiece. There are stairs leading to the second floor by the reception. A young woman stands behind the desk, she turns to our heroes and smiles.
"What can I do for you?"
As they order some food and drinks, other dreamers enter the City from north. Christopher and Gwen say farewell to the friendly Trolls and head for the Kukkiva tölli Inn. After long walk through the busy streets of the Seaport and getting lost few times they come to the Inn. As they arrive they are greeted by Mathias Foxtail in front of the Inn.
Mathias:
"Eh! where have you lovers escaped? seeking a place to "REST" are ye?.. well this is a good place indeed... just don't make too much noise, so I can sleep also.. HEH HEH..."
*Gwendolyn smiles sweetly at him.*
"Rest? Actually, we were looking for a place to screw."
*With an astonished expression on his face, Christopher's turns to Gwen.*
"Yes.. we er.. to rest. yes... if there is a free room... I mean rooms.. to err.. rest. yes."
*One of the other men puts down his pint and turns to the smallest man*
"Oh! be quiet Mathias...."
"I'm sorry"
*He says to Gwen and Christopher*
*the smallest man grinns*
*Gwendolyn is doubled over with laughter*
*After his initial surprise Christopher quickly gets himself together.*
"Well, have no worries dear sir. We will are very quiet sleepers both."
*Christopher opens the door for Gwendolyn and a blush slowly comes to his face.*
*Gwendolyn enters, still snickering. After she is inside, she turns toward Christopher and notices his blush.*
"Oh, silly thing! I was just dragging his implication into the open! I'm not going to rape you or anything!"
*She smiles saucily and gives him a quick wink, then walks toward the desk.*
"Well no. Of course you are not going to. Hmm.. although for some reason the idea seems appealing to me... I wonder when I will get used to you Americans, probably never."
*Christopher smiles sheepisly at Gwen.*
*Christopher walks to the counter.*
"Hello there miss!. May I inquire if you have a free room for two persons for a couple of nights?"

The Meeeting with the Scribe:
"Good day sirs and lady I am Morty the Scribe and Grand map maker... Hmm the cavern of flame.... yes in enchanted forest it is...... I think I have something... yes follow me... *the small (about 1 meter = 3' high) bold man turns and walks inside his shop. there is a sign over his door saying 'Grand map maker Morty the Scribe'. You follow him inside where he goes through the endless shelves full of maps and writings... after twenty minutes (and lots of "just a moment, it's right here somewhere") he pulls out an old and worn out map...* Yes this is close enough, a map to the Crystal Lake Castle south of the cavern, it is a neutral and dangerous trading Castle and city. They will know the way to the cavern for sure... just have a second opinion so you don't get cheated... I can sell this map for 3 gold coins..."
Morty the Scribe smiles:
"Just a moment... I will have to tell you about these markings on the map... Hmmm.. yes.. this is an old map done by some Serpent people merchant... a slave merchant I guess... most of these markings are not familiar to me, but the way to the Crystal Lake Castle is quite clear.. "
The mapmaker gives you another map. This one is a common map showing two neigboring kingdoms and the way the the Great mountains.
