Military
The United Planetary Federation maintains a small but extremely powerful and versatile fleet of ships called the Armada. The Armada is made up of five fleets, and has always made use of the most advanced and sophisticated technology the Frontier has to offer.
While the advanced military technology which makes these high numbers possible inevitably trickles down to the private sector and finds it way to the black market, these numbers stay static to reflect ongoing R&D and the continuous upgrading of Armada vessels by the Federation. Between the First and Second Sathar Wars, about 10% of all non-Armada and non-Star Law vessels made use of technology which gave them these multipliers. In the aftermath of the Second Sathar War, that percentage is about 35% and holding steady.

The Armada falls under the direction of the Armada Command, more commonly known as ARMCOM. The Armada is used almost entirely to repel invasions. During peacetime, any three of the five fleets will be engaging in war games of some sort or another. The remaining two will either be supplementing Star Law, patrolling the borders, mapping uncharted territory, or showboating in RC or unclaimed space.
Planetary Defenses Command
Supplementing the Armada is the Planetary Defense Force. The Planetary Defense Force falls under the direction of the Planetary Defenses Command, or PLADCOM. This acronym is the source of a great deal of ribbing among Planetary Defense Commandos by Humans, and the source of their famous battle cry "Dead men don't wear plaid!" The Planetary Defense Force used to be the Armada Marine Corps, but it was elevated to an equal status with its former parent after the Second Sathar War. Planetary Defense Forces make use of numerous heavily armed and armored ground, air, and sea vehicles.
