Nuclear Disease

A story by Its about his first GURPS game.

??? The start of our campaign. The GM let us make 100 point characters for this adventure. We were in the Marines, and a small squad of us were sent into LA to solve some kind of problem they had at a nuclear plant, that caused about all but maybe 10,000 people leave the city. The GM told us before the game has started that our characters would fight aliens. It was three players and one gm. Me and another palyers' character had alcoholism, so we made some jokes about if the alien was blocking a bars entrance, our companion would flee indefinintly while me and my fellow drunk would RPG that bastard alien. We had a nice two or so minute joke session, then we started the game.

??? We were assigned a APC vechile from the San Diego armories, and were given geiger counters, video cameras, etc. to help us get that scum outta the city. The army limited our choices on weaponry, but we were allowed to pick about three guns. I ended up deciding to use the american M-16, an IMI eagle .44, and I think I also ended up getting a remington 12 gauge shotgun. I also grabbed about 10 pounds worth of ammo, and a couple of m-59 concussion grenades. I was ready. The APC was air dropped about 7 miles from the nuclear plant.

??? I lied about the APC, do you really think the army was gonna give us one of those, we were air dropped though.

??? Coincidently, we were landed, next to a bar. Doesn't that seem strange, that almsot all games start at a bar? Well anyway, about 99.99% of LA was evacuated, right? So the bar was too.Me and my alcoholic friend knew that the booze was probably contaminated, so we rolled to try to get out of it. He was lucky, I failed my roll though. Fortunently, the GM said I drank a safe beer. So after our temptations were fulfilled, we decided to press on. About a quarter mile later, we saw a couple of dogs running towards us. Upon further inspection and vision rolls, we seen huge chunks of skin and stuff hanging off them, we assumed that they have been contaminated by the radiation (I would like to point out, that this game happened in 94', the first resident evil game was '96. I was about 12 at the time.) SO combat happens, and the dogs get huge holes blown in there chests, but not before my non alcoholic friend was bitten. We continued just a few feet more, and we saw a multi floor garage. We decided to go up there to find a vechile of some sorts, so that we coudl cruise to the plant in style, and to unload the 75+ pounds of equipment we had assigned. Well, we did, the car expert of the group identified it, and the GM told us that it was a '84 camaro. No keys though. So our car expert hotwired it, and we hopped in. We were gonnan go through the garage doors.

??? We totally forgot that the garage was on the second floor(as players, and thus, characters)

??? We enjoyed a good crash into a brick wall, and everyone suffered minor injury at most, and although the car was beat up pretty bad, it was still trying to go through the wall(cause we hotwired it, and the damage rolls on the car were low.) We tried to fix the wires, but it stopped. Trying to restart the car failed, so we gave up on it and continued.

??? We then found some weird building, about 20 stories high, with a slight mess of some green sh*t, like the stuff we seen on the dogs. I forgot most of this stuff. But in there building, we had like an hour of combat(in real time, game time, there was about a minute of fighting) and found out than the green stuff wasn't nuclear waste, but it had a high contamination rating. So lets skip this part of continue to the final parts.

??? We still haven't gotten a car, and we are about half way towards the nuclear plant. We can a mexican american man looking out with an Uzi in hand, watching out for the mutants(as we found out, they weren't aliens but mutants). He didn't see us though, so we decided to introduce ourselves.

??? Stupid me, I have always been trigger happy. I will tell this story, from my characters point of view.

??? Okay, we entered the main room, and it was empty, there was another room to the right, and a basement down to the left, and an upstairs that goes up to the right. My friends took the other paths, and sicne I was the only guy that could speak spanish in our group, I went upstairs. I walked up the stairs, and instead, tryed an attempt on the man's life.

??? Click click. I forgot to reload my M-16.

??? The man immediately turns around and trys to shoot with uzis blaring, but luckily, I pick up some atheletic skills that helped me use some acrobatic skillls, and rolled down the stairs. It hurt bad though. I rolled into the side room, and whoops, I tripped my non alcoholic companion. A woman in the room starts stabing him and he takes like 5 points of danage but he starts beating her in with his gun in the face. I ready my IMI and the Mexican is reloading his uzi clip, and it took me but one shot to lay him flat, I rolled 15 points of damage. The woman is beaten so badby that she is dead too. We unready our weapons, and the other partner finds a little boy. They tell me to tell the boy everything is okay, etc. but my character has honesty. So in spanish I ask the kid(NICELy!) if he wanted to die like his parents, and he runs off and we never see him again.

??? We fianlly make it to the plant, we enter it and take on like soem mroe monsters. We got beaten fairly bad, but we survived, well, most of us anyway. We fought liek tons of facehugger type things, and he attacked my partner, and I killed the facehugger with my fists, but it was too late, he was drained bad. He was abotu to die. I myself had my arm blew off because I was goign to threw my grenade, but a face hugger attacked on my hands and its claws were too tough to break within a couple of seconds. And my other friend had his left leg cut pretty bad by some of that green stuff in the power plant, which was stronger, and like acid. We called for backup and the army was disappointed, so we were killed. The end.
