I've rated each book on a 5 system:
Absolutely indespensible to running any Changeling game
Necessary for any game with options for play
Recommended for any fully-fleshed out campaign
Recommended for the more esoteric aspects of the game
Looks pretty in your collection
By the way, my estimation of what is essential to a campaign disregards those who want to follow White Wolf's "metaplots" closely.
There are also two sections: Changeling books and other World of Darkness books
Note on excerpts/errata: I've provided links to excerpts/errata on the White Wolf site for the various books (sorry, Navigator folks, you're screwed again by your browser - you'll have to search for the excerpts/errata yourself on the White Wolf site). Additional errata is maintained at Scattered Dreams, on the Errata page.
The Autumn People
Plagued by horrible editing mistakes, but still necessary, as the changelings do live in the "Autumn World." Errata - look for "Autumn People Errata" on this page.
Book of Lost Dreams
The original crossover book for Changeling, much of the material here has been incorporated into more recent books. However, besides the impossible-to-find Shadow Court, this is the only book which gives the Boons and Flaws for the three "Unseelie" Houses (not even BoH2 has this information).
Book of Lost Houses
More sidhe houses have returned from Arcadia! This book contains the info on four newly returned houses, along with the much-needed update on House Scathach. These houses round out the sidhe kith quite nicely, and should add many dimensions to your chronicles.
Book of Storyteller Secrets
A few crossover rules, and an adventure. No secrets here.
Changeling: the Dreaming, 1st Edition
Updated and superceded by 2nd Edition (below), this book still looks very handsome, and has a few things which didn't make the 2nd Edition cut.
Changeling: the Dreaming, 2nd Edition
If you want to play Changeling, you have to have this book. 'Nuff said. Excerpt (in pdf format - 121K)
Changeling Players Kit
It looks really pretty in your collection - it does! It has old 1st edition bunk cards and lots of color 1st edition character sheets (which you end up not using because then, well, they'll be used).
Changeling Storytellers Guide
Contains the most up-to-date crossover rules. Also contains some fantastic storytelling pointers - I've run RPGs for more than twenty years, and I still found some useful tips to add to my campaigns.
Court of All Kings
A novel, last of the Immortal Eyes trilogy. A good read and a good conclusion to the adventure.
Denizens of the Dreaming
Some interesting additions to a campaign, intriguing and sometimes annoying in the same breath. This book is about the "Adhene," who are not Changelings - nor are they properly Thallain - they are Fae who either were forced or chose to remain in the Dreaming, but that only applies to about 2/3 of the kith in the book... Well, you see what I mean.
Dreams and Nightmares
Many will agree that this is the best-written of all Changeling supplements, both from a story and a rules standpoint. All the essential information for running adventures in the Dreaming is here. Excerpt (in pdf format - 976K)
The Enchanted
Detailed rules for Changeling interaction with humans, and the sourcebook for the Kinain (humans with fae blood). Necessary.
Fool's Luck: the Way of the Commoner
Even though I wanted more from this book, it has the most comprehensive history of the Accordance War, and states commoner perspectives on other issues.
Freeholds & Hidden Glens
A collection of interesting places in the US (one in Canada), including Goblin Town (NYC). I thoroughly enjoy this book.
Immortal Eyes: Court of All Kings
The third adventure of the Immortal Eyes, set in Ireland. A good wrap-up to the series, and includes the Clurichaun (leprechauns to the uninitiated).
Immortal Eyes: Shadows on the Hill
The second installment of the Immortal Eyes adventure series. Even though I personally enjoyed the adventure setting and the Menehune kith in this book, it's ultimately only useful if you run adventures in Hawaii.
Immortal Eyes: The Toybox
The first in the three-part adventure series of the Immortal Eyes. A good look at Changeling adventures in general, and contains the details on the Selkie kith (for that coastal adventure).
Inanimae: the Secret Way
Nature/element spirits for Changeling. Very esoteric play.
Isle of the Mighty
If you don't mind butchering the real-world and legendary history of the British Isles, this book is actually quite useful and entertaining. Just don't try to convince any Great Britain natives of its worth. Excerpt (in pdf format - 796K)
Kingdom of Willows
A wonderful sourcebook for the southeastern US (exclusive of Florida). Useful if just for its ideas, which are transplantable elsewhere.
Kithbook: Nockers
In my opinion, the best of the kithbooks. Excerpt (in pdf format - 2,007K)
Kithbook: Pooka
High expectations were placed on this book, which sold out its print run very quickly. It does offer many good alternative possibilities to playing Pooka, but players always want more.
Kithbook: Redcaps
A caustic read, but if you can stomach it, this book will expand your understanding of one of the most misrepresented kith in Changeling. Errata.
Kithbook: Satyrs
A lovely, well-written book covering almost everything you wanted to know about satyrs.
Kithbook: Sluagh
Very nice expansion for Sluagh.
Kithbook: Trolls
If trolls are in your campaign, get this book.
Land of Eight Million Dreams
The Hsien of the Orient have less in common with western Changelings than the Kuel-Jin have with Vampires, but this is still a great book. Truly the Hsien should be expanded in other supplements.
Nobles: the Shining Host
This is Kithbook: Sidhe and more, containing details on the political structure of the fae (focusing on Concordia) and House Scathach. Don't confuse this book with "The Shining Host" (below), which is the Changeling LARP sourcebook.
Nobless Oblige: the Book of Houses
An in-depth look at houses Dougal, Eiluned, Fiona, Gwydion and Liam.
Player's Guide
Although the Player's Guide was written before 2nd Edition came out, it still contains a wealth of supplemental information, such as expanded Abilities and the Nunnehi (Native American kith).
Pour L'Amour et Liberte: The Book of Houses 2
Almost all the essential information on the three "Unseelie" Houses. You should have either The Shadow Court or The Book of Lost Dreams for the rest of the info.
The Shadow Court
The rarest and most coveted of out-of-print Changeling books, it could have been written much better, but still contains invaluable information on the Unseelie and the Shadow Court.
Shadows on the Hill
A novel - second in the Immortal Eyes trilogy.
The Shining Host
Note that the five rating applies to Live Action, as this is the only Changeling LARP book. Do not confuse this book with "Nobles: The Shining Host" (above).
The Splendor Falls - A Changeling: the Dreaming Anthology
A collection of short stories for Changeling. A varied read, in feel as well as quality of the stories - however, it gives many examples of changeling systems (unfortunately, mostly 1st edition) in action.
The Toybox
A novel - the first of the Immortal Eyes trilogy, the only full-fledge Changeling novels. These books are a wonderful introduction to the setting and feel of Changeling, and help answer some rules interpretations as well.
Bastest
This is the sourcebook for Werecats (as in the Werewolf game). Even though one rare Werecat, the Ceilican, have historial ties to the fae, they fear the changelings now, and have nothing to do with them if possible.
Blood-Dimmed Tides
Contains information on undersea relations to the fae. Useful for that aquatic adventure you know you want to run.
The Bygone Bestiary
This book was really written from a Mage perspective, but is still useful in Changeling to help create chimera, especially PC chimera.
Combat
If you need additional detail for your WoD combatants, here's the book. Can add unnecessary complication, however.
The Essential World of Darkness
I found out about this book via the Changeling Forum. (Thanks, helldiver!) So now I've got to get it... White Wolf's catalog just lists it as "out of print," so I don't know exactly what it contains.
Freak Legion: A Players Guide to Fomori
Although some Storytellers use this book to help with Fomorians, the Fomori are really not in line with what Fomorians could be. Denizens of the Dreaming should be used instead.
Midnight Circus
In light of the supposed view of little crossover between WoD games, this adventure is a full-fledged, high-power crossover of all the WoD lines (except Hunter). Of special note is the character of Astarte, the Autumn Queen.
Pomegranates, Full and Fine
I do not have this book, but others tell me it's a crossover novel: Changelings, Sabbat and Nephandi.
The Quintessential World of Darkness
I also found out about this book via the Changeling Forum. (Thanks again, helldiver!) Another one to buy... White Wolf's catalog says it contains "a previously unpublished novella by Jody Lynn Nye [which] covers Changeling."
Rage Across Appalachia
If you use Nunnehi, this book has a couple of interesting additional rules for them (pg 101), however, the Totems are all repeats from the Player's Guide.
World of Darkness Sorcerer
If you want human magic in your campaign, but feel Magi are too powerful, this is the book to use.
