The Biscuits encountered heavy river traffic as they approached the river delta. There were many skiffs and a few barges plying about, along with larger ocean-going ships.
Gimar | Second worst traffic anywhere, I'll reckon. |
Nicola | What's the worst, then? |
Rheaphlyndar | How are you going to convince someone to take us across the bay, deep into the blockade of the Scarlet Brotherhood? |
Jaron | I'll make him an offer he can't refuse. |
Soon enough, they pulled into the wharf-town of Nessermouth. Gimar and Jaron headed out to find an ocean-going vessel, while the rest of the party restocked provisions and generally got the lay of the land.
When Gimar and Jaron returned, they pointed out the ship they would be taking to the south.
Rheaphlyndar | Is it a fast ship? |
Gimar | Don't you get started again. We leave tomorrow, but we can board immediately. |
Wed availed himself of the opportunity, since he was still running a fever from the swamp. Gimar wandered about looking for dwarves with information, and the rest of the party mostly meandered, eventually enjoying a hearty meal at a halfling establishment.
Jaron | What was the proprietor's name again? |
Little John | Olo Proudfoot. |
Jaron | My compliments to him, this food is marvelous. |
Dollin | Oh, it could use a little more seasoning. |
Nicola | It's a pity Gimar couldn't be here. |
Gimar also ended up at a small halfling eatery, finally giving up on finding dwarves with maps. He wasn't disappointed in the ale, however. It was a southern variety, light and very hoppy.
Gimar | Wonderful snacks, by the way. |
Prisca Bunce | (curtsying) 'Tis not a problem, kind sir. Will you be joining us for cards, later? |
Gimar | I think I could be talked into a few games. |
Prisca | Fosco, we've got a fourth. |
Fosco | (from the next room) Hot diggety! |

The next morning, bright and early, the Biscuits set out across the Relmor Bay on board the Saucy Mare. Yodavan got some flak from one of the sailors, but got his revenge in the end with a well placed deck-water spill. The sky was clear, but Wed stayed below, his fever turned instead to sea-sickness. Nicola pronounced him otherwise healthy, however, and came up on deck to listen to the group.
Captain Gavin | I've agreed not to ask any questions of your journey, but I wonder if you fully understand the dangers. |
Jaron | Such as? |
Gavin | Well, there's Pirates and Sea Monsters, for a start. |
Gimar | (Eyeing his axe) Well, we can take them, or dent them trying. |
Gavin | Ah, adventurers, ever the optimists. I trust you find your cabin satisfactory? |
Nicola | Your first mate Christopher was most helpful. |
Rheaphlyndar | What are those fish over there? |
Gavin | Ah, bless me. Not fish, but dolphins. They don't usually go into the bay. Still, dolphins are considered a good sign. |
Mister Christopher | I don't like the look of that horizon, sir. |
After sailing for a bit, most of the Biscuits went below decks to escape the heating sun. The Mare was a fast ship and made good time in the morning, but by afternoon was becalmed and drifting slightly. The crew was grumbling and the Captain didn't seem completely at ease.
Only Gimar, Yodavan, and Rheaph were above decks, and Gimar was pacing loudly over the Biscuit's cabin below. The sea they were now drifting in contained increasing amounts of flotsam; various logs and masses of seaweed were clumped here and there.
Rheaphlyndar | Say, Mister Christopher, can I climb the rigging and take a look about? |
Mister Christopher | Sure, why not? Try not to fall in the water! |
Yodavan | (eyeing the thin ropes) Hmmmm, safe those don't look. A madman are you? |
Rheaphlyndar | Are you calling me a madman, you, you... you FRIBBLE! |
Yodavan | Harrumph! |
Yodavan headed over to the port side of the boat then, and Rheaphlyndar nearly reached the crew's basket in peace. A sailor on the starboard deck yelled out.
Sailor | That log, it's moving! |
As the alarm was sounded on the ship, Yodavan rushed over and tried to move another of the logs to block the dark shape. His ring wasn't quite powerful enough, however. Gimar reached for his crossbow when a voice from above called out.
Rheaphlyndar | Reptile to Starboard! |
The rogue then leapt from the top of the rigging. He willed his armor to a full glide down to the giant crocodile below, now driving straight at the hull.
As the rest of the Biscuits were scrambling up the narrow staircase, Wed awoke from a bad dream and called out.
Wed | We're sinking and nothing's going to keep us from drowning! |
