The Biscuits | Gimar - Fighter 8th Level (PC) Jaron - Paladin 4th Level (PC) Rheaphlyndar - Thief 7th Level (PC) Nicola - Cleric 4th Level (PC) Wed - Mage 4th Level (NPC) Little John - Fighter 4th Level (NPC) |
Locale | Descending to the third level of the Temple of Elemental Evil |
Date | 21st of Fireseek, 585 CY (Common Year) |
Time | Underground, but probably daybreak |
The party was undisturbed by Wisps through the night, and a decision was made to finish the second level, then make another probe to the third level. All were in agreement that a different staircase should be used. It was also agreed that the group would return to town shortly after that, for training and to find a specific method to fight the speedy glowing lights. The only magic captured (the Medusa cloak) was stored with the treasure for the time being.
The party fought bravely and well, and defeated many creatures, finally purging the second level. It appeared that the second level of the dungeon lacked the large elementals that were the remaining monsters on the first level, guarding an unknown treasure.
Wed looked at the map and chose the furthest staircase from the one taken previously. All agreed and the party sunk towards the third level depths once more.
Gimar | While Rheaphlyndar is checking those steps for traps, I just want to say that I am really impressed with the way you handled that Su-monster, Nicola. |
Nicola | (grinning) Oh I think that was just luck, really. I mean, you guys seemed stunned, and I was just thinking about hold person at the time. |
Jaron | I would think that gray monkey-biscuit would have been a Hold Monster instead. |
Wed | I've read somewhere that Su-monkeys were created by the Suel in the ancient past. A man-monkey cross of some sort. |
Rheaphlyndar | Well, we un-created that one. Stairs are clear ahead. By the way, Gimar, you certainly handled those werewolves well. |
Little John | Hear hear. |
Gimar | You might say that I've got a thing about werewolves and vampires. |
Nicola | Light of Pelor slay them all. Speaking of important contributions, I think that Jaron handled that swordsman in fine fashion. |
Jaron | It was a fair fight. I thank you all for dealing with the rest of those bandits. |
Gimar | Twas nothing methinks. I believe this staircase ends in a door. |
Rheaphlyndar | On it. |
Jaron | Say, Rheaphlyndar, you certainly surprised that assassin. |
Nicola | Yeah, Rheaph, those darts were poisoned too. Pretty nasty stuff. |
Rheaphlyndar | (smirks) Yep. Now if you'll all be quiet for a moment . . . |
The rogue heard nothing behind the door, and found no traps. As the party moved through, they found an east-west corridor, opening into a room just to the east of the doorway. The group spent some time rifling the various crates and shelves.
Wed | Another storage room. Some of this alchemical stuff might be interesting. |
Nicola | Looks like enough stuff to stock a small shop. A large box of chalk, sacks of charcoal, jugs of turpentine. |
Gimar | OK Wed, make a note of it, maybe we'll take some of this stuff on the way out. |
Moving west, the corridor zig-zagged a bit and branched. No room was spotted, so the party continued west. After another forty feet, the corridor bent to the southwest, then joined another corridor running north-south. Another angled corridor was spotted to the west.
Rheaphlyndar | There is a door at the edge of the light to the north. |
Wed | With that alchemy storeroom behind us, that could be a workshop. |
Gimar | Hold up, Wed. We don't want to stir up trouble just yet. Let's keep heading west until we reach an end or another corridor leading south, so we know our boundaries here. |
The party travelled northwest for about sixty feet, then the corridor turned straight west. Forty feet up the corridor branched to the north and bent to the northwest again.
Rheaphlyndar | Secret door to the south! |
Wed | I've put it on the map. Should we hit that or keep going west? |
Gimar | One south corridor and one door, I think we should go a little further west. |
Nicola | Sounds good to me. |
Skipping the north corridor for the moment, the party went northwest, and after thirty feet that opened into a room. If the previous room was an alchemical store room, this room resembled instead a museum. There were glass cases and exhibits hung on the walls. Rheaphlyndar did a quick survey for traps and magic, and found none of either. The party spread out to search the room.
Nicola | Quite a collection of heads here. A few skulls, hands, and what I presume are skins. |
Jaron | Over here there are gold crowns designed to be worn on a helmet. |
Rheaphlyndar | (moving quickly towards Jaron) Eh, those aren't worth much. No gems or jewels . . . |
Gimar | Nicola, correct me if I'm wrong here, but aren't these holy symbols here for deities of Good? |
Nicola | definitely, and there are some surcoats and tabards also bearing good symbolds. |
Little John | Well, this is the Temple of Elemental Evil, after all. I've got rings seals and sigils over here. |
Rheaphlyndar | (moving quickly again) Ah, now these have some value . . . |
Jaron | This cabinet has maces, and by the looks of them ceremonial. What about the middle of the room, Wed? |
Wed | I can't find much among these smashed cases guys. They look like they were crushed from above. |
Gimar | Above? But that means . . . Short weapons all!. |
Gimar's statement was heeded by the party as a huge shape fell to the floor of the room, covering the party and making spellcasting and speech impossible. Nicola got off a last spell and Jaron a well-placed crossbow bolt, however

While the party nabbed the valuable items, Rheaphlyndar concluded there were no further exits from this room. The group next hit the north leading corridor, which led to another storeroom and no exits. While the crates were checked, Nicola dropped a light cure on Rheaphlyndar and Jaron.
Rheaphlyndar | Ah, that feels better. Nothing here but broken junk. |
Gimar | Yep, looks like somebody used this room as a dump. Still, we should detect magic just to be sure. |
Wed | (casting, then turning) Nope, nothing here. |
Next the group went through the secret door, which revealed a south-leading corridor, turning west after thirty feet, then opening into a strangely shaped room.
Nicola | Definitely a chapel. Check out those white hangings edged in purple, gold, and silver. |
Rheaphlyndar | That black stone is nothing special, nor is that small wooden altar. |
Gimar | What about this reliquary? |
Rheaphlyndar | Reli-what? |
Nicola | It's a holy object that contains ashes of a priest or saint. Is that silver lamp worth anything? |
Rheaphlyndar | Ah, my specialty. At least 100 gold in the right market. That cross looks heavy, but is probably worth 400 gold. And that idol over there is over 800 easy. |
Jaron | That idol is to Pholtus! What's that doing here. And to the west, I detect Evil!. |
Gimar | (spotting a secret door to the west) We'll get the loot in a minute. Battle order, everyone. |
The western door was opened to reveal a hexagonal room filled with dust and cobwebs. Near the door was a skeleton clad in rags, pronounced by Jaron to be dead. The entire party felt uneasy.
Jaron | I feel the evil towards the northwest the strongest. |
Gimar | . . . which is obviously empty. What do you see, Rheaphlyndar? |
Rheaphlyndar | (squinting) Looks like an invisible iron coffin. Why would anybody want to do that? |
The party advances and is able to feel the invisible coffin.
Rheaphlyndar | (squinting, then reaching forward) Here's an invisible scroll tube, and, whoah, that's strange. |
Wed | (taking the tube) What do you see? |
Rheaphlyndar | Inside the coffin there's a vampire, with a stake through his heart. But I also see a dude in plate mail with blonde hair. I think the plate dude is the real one, but it's hard to tell with the invisibility. Ow, my head hurts. |
Wed had pried open the scroll tube, withdrawing the scraps of parchment from within. One was a scroll of two magic user spells (both Strength), the other a message, in common:
Normal Text | Character's words or descriptive text if part of a paragraph |
Italic Text | Character's thoughts or actions if surrounded by parenthesis |
Bold Text | Character is shouting. |
