Strange Attractions

Gravity
That strange attractor
Without it we could not exist
Holds us all together
While it tears the rest apart
Get to close to a dense object
(Heavy not stupid)
And you become its slave
Try to escape up the gravity well
And all you will do is get wet

Even light
That strange attraction
Chasing through the stars
It signifies all that science can surrender
It cannot hope to break its spell
Reflected and refracted
The light is bent on contact
Split into its components
The colours escape into oblivion

The first to go is red
Hard and painful you hardly miss it.
Through orange, yellow, green
Half of all experience is washed away
On a tide of inevitable terror
Blue dissipates
You are left with the infinite sadness of purple
Battered lips and bruised lives
Regret and sorrow mean nothing anymore
All that is left is black
But even that must surely disappear.
