The Biscuits | Jaron - Paladin 6th Level (PC) |
Locale | Greyhawk City |
Date | 19th day of Wealsun, 585 CY (Common Year) |
Time | mid-morning |
Squire Jaron Yhanovhaar spent his first few days in the City of Hawks getting settled in and having his armor polished and thoroughly cleaned. That done, he spent the bulk of Godsday helping some of the displaced citizens of the Shield Lands who were building a large hostel. It was located in the eastern half of the Old City, just north of the City Depot, where many of the exiles had found work as street repairmen or garbagemen.
The long day of work felt good, and although his muscles ached, he went to sleep that night with the fond memories. The paladin remembered his time in the academy at Niole Dra, where he gained most of his martial training.
The next day he arrived at the Keoish embassy, now completed and painted the traditional deep burgundy red. The same pretty lass with dark brown tresses was just inside the door.
Lily | Welcome back, Squire Jaron. My, what lovely gold armor you have. |
Jaron | Thank you, Lily is it? I just had it polished. Is the ambassador in? |
Lily | Of course, right this way. |
Jaron was shown to the next waiting room, but was only there a few minutes when Sir Milos' manservant swung open the door.
Tyr | Sir Milos will see you now. |
Sir Milos | Ah, Squire, welcome. |
The ambassador and his manservant were packing some of the ambassador's personal effects into large chests.
Jaron | Sir, have I come at a bad time? |
Sir Milos | (laughing) Hoh, no, young squire. My replacement has been elected, so I am returning to the manse. I hear through the grapevine that you are on an important mission, eh? |
Jaron spent a good part of the morning describing the events of the last seven months. Sir Milos had a few questions, but mostly just listened with interest.
Jaron | . . . and that about wraps it up, sir. |
Sir Milos | (smiling) About like you have that urn wrapped up, I see. |
Jaron | (blushing slightly) It's a habit, sir. Will you be needing any more help packing? |
Sir Milos | For another half hour or so. I am due to meet the incoming ambassador for lunch, a certain Almerin Skiari. Would you like to come along? |
Jaron | I would be grateful for the chance to hear some of the news from home. |
Sir Milos | Very well, then. Zelina was right about you, you've turned into quite the noble warrior. |
Jaron | (blushing again) Thank you, sir. Please give her my respects when you return to the estate. |
Sir Milos | I'll do that, but I'll let you tell your tale for yourself. When you've completed this quest, and I have no doubt that you will, please return to my estate. |
Jaron | Yes, m'lord. |
The Biscuits | Dollin - Druid 6th Level (PC) |
Locale | Just outside Greyhawk City |
Date | 21st day of Wealsun, 585 CY (Common Year) |
Time | mid-morning |
Dollin spent his first few days in Greyhawk travelling about, first with Jaron and then with Rheaphlyndar. He and the rogue had spent most of a day trying to find the dwarf that Rheaph described, but with no luck.
The druid then struck out on his own, eager to explore outside the city walls. The comforting light of the two waxing moons, Celene and Luna, guided his nightly strolls.
Dollin circumnavigated the city, but the site he was moste interested in was the Stone Ring. He took many measurements of it and spent most of a day within it, but was unable to fathom it's full intents. He had heard many rumours that persons sitting in the middle of the circle were undetectable by divination magic, but that apparently didn't work with the Biscuit's lone mage, Wed Booth.
Wed | (approaching) It's Flannish, you know. |
Dollin | Many of the older structures are. How's the school? |
The druid was referring to Wed's scholarship at the College of Wizardry. While the rest of the Biscuits were travelling about town and getting business done, Wed had decided to learn some more spells and spend time (and money) experiencing the most prestigious college in the known world.
Wed | I've learned many things, but nothing compared to what I've learned since joining this party. Say, have you ever heard of the Old Faith? |
Dollin | Can't say that I have -- it's not connected with Iuz, is it? |
Wed | No, it's far older than that. Basically, what I've heard is that in ancient times the only gods were nature gods, and the druidic priests were all powerful. The only knowledge we have comes not from their writings but from the songs of bards. In fact, there's rumoured to be a secret bardic college that studies only those past eons. |
Dollin | (stroking his chin) Very interesting. |
As they talked, they walked, and the mage and druid eventually found themselves near a small shack in the slum district. The walls, inside and out, were covered with a rich green ivy.
Dollin | Come on in, I've been crashing here. |
Wed | (noticing the plants) I presume you have something to do with these? |
Dollin | (grinning) I have a green thumb. It helps me feel at home in this nature-forsaken place. How can people possibly live together in such a small space, walking in each others excrement and bathing in the same filthy water! Mark my words, Nature will lay this city low someday. Oh, sorry, you got me on a rant there. |
Wed | Ah, you have a new pet I see. What did you name the rabbit? |
Dollin | That's my Bunny, Watson. |
Wed | I am not sure he would like the road. |
Dollin | You're right, She wouldn't, but I'll be leaving her here. There's a little boy down the street named Richard who would just love to have her. |
