Barmanos Thank you again for your help.
Little John I think of it as my duty, really. Can I ask about another favor?
Barmanos Whenever you like.
Little John It's about the mage Hannah. Her body is currently in residence down the street.
Barmanos I am familiar with the case. The priestess G'Leina is also there, right?
Little John That's right. Is there anything you can do to help me find her soul?
Barmanos I believe so. Concentrate really hard and come over here with me.

The pair walked over to Barmanos' magical mirror, and after the High Priest said a few incantations, they peered into the mirror together.

Barmanos Thank you again for your help.
Gimar We give it gladly. I have a small confession to make, however.
Barmanos Please, go on.
Gimar You see, it's this axe of mine. Occasionally, it likes to eat magical items.
Barmanos Oh my heavens, you didn't take a chop at the relic, did you?
Gimar No, but when I picked it up I thought I saw a small flash. Have you tested it fully yet?
Barmanos I was planning on doing that tomorrow, at the Godsday service.
Gimar Well if it doesn't work you can blame me.
Barmanos Gimar my son, part of the magic is that this is a relic of His Holy Radiance, Pelor. That, plus the fact that it didn't fall into evil hands, is enough for me.
Gimar (chagrinned) I still feel bad.
Barmanos (hinting) Perhaps a donation of some sort?

Time morning

Rheaphlyndar spent the majority of his time in town shopping around, and he managed to fill his Baldric with magical daggers. He also acquired two potions of invisibility and a fairly potent sleeping potion.

As for the rest of the Biscuits, Nicola turned her magic missile wand over for recharging and then joined Jaron to help out with the Godsday service at the church of Pelor; Gimar purchased a small cart to port his goods back to Northbank; and Dollin spent a little time in the hills south of the city, discussing the recent heat wave with the farmers. Wed, always the curious one, joined him on this venture.

Barmanos made the group a gift of seven healing potions, courtesy of the Fountain of Pelor. They were delivered by Little John, who showed up just as the party was ready to leave town.

Little John Hi guys, ready to go?
Jaron We were just considering leaving without you.
Little John What, leave without your warrior? Hey Gimar, what's in the cart?
Gimar Barrels of Banthor's Best, if you must know.
Rheaphlyndar One for the road?
Nicola More than one, I imagine. Anyhow, we were just discussing where we would meet up and when.
Little John Oh, that's right, you aren't going to Greyhawk.
Gimar Nicola and I will head south at Ford Keep, to Northbank. I have some business to attend to . . .
Dollin (smirking) . . . and beer to drink . . .
Gimar Anyhow, we'll meet at Diamond Lake a little less than four weeks from now.
Wed I have that location on my map, here.
Rheaphlyndar I am going to sell off some of the party treasure and exchange for gems, to lighten our load for travel. Also, if anyone needs me to "acquire" something for them . . .
Jaron (sneering) Or I could purchase it, legally. Just let us know.

Time late afternoon

The Biscuits travelled for three uneventful days, finally spotting the Selintan River in late afternoon. The weather continued quite hot, and many of the crops were a wee bit too brown, in Dollin's opinion. Wed spoke of his theory of global warming but was roundly ignored.

The nights were lit by the twin moons of Celene and Luna, both half full. They were just moving into the sky as the party reached the ford.

Gimar There's Ford Keep on the other side.
Dollin And the Selintan Beacons are still lit, I see.
Jaron That's the war for ya. Those beacons are to make this river easier to defend.
Rheaphlyndar (turning) Where are those soldiers now?
Jaron Oh, another Hezrou.
Gimar Battle Formation!
Hezrou (emanating fear) I suppose giving me your horses is out of the question then.

Rheaphlyndar, Nicola, Wed and Jaron ran in fear as the battle was joined.

As Dollin struck down the first Hezrou with a shocking hit, Gimar's Axe fell back to the ground. Unfortunately, the fear effect struck soon after and Dollin also ran for higher ground.

Dollin Aaaauuugh!
Gimar (now wielding his crossbow of speed) You're toast, fiend!
Hezrou #2 In your dreams, dwarf.

15 [9+6] Hezrou teleports

Gimar Little John, jump back!

The staff-wielding warrior obliged and Gimar hurled his axe through the darkness, dispelling it but striking nothing. The rest of the party returned soon after and much healing was applied.

Gimar That thing nearly bit off my leg.
Nicola It's probably just a small compound fracture.
Little John (bravely) We could have taken it. (firmly) We should have taken it.

The Greyhawk militia arrived next, but the battle was definitely over. The police group escorted the party across the ford to the Keep, providing a small boat for Gimar's cart. That night the Biscuits filled the guards in on the monsters they had seen so recently, and the master of the Keep vowed to send word to Greyhawk the next day.

Jaron You know, most of our group is also headed that way. We could assist in delivering your message.
Rheaphlyndar . . . for a price.
