Zlagtog

Zlagtog are renowned hunters. They often share the forests they live in with elves and other sylvan creatures. They generally live in earthbound huts and tents which are easily disasembled and moved to follow the hunt.

Personality
Zlagtog are generally of playful spirit. This playful attitude carries over to friends and foes alike. The hunt is just as fun as any game one plays with his friends.

Physical Description
Zlagtog are a humanoid race of feline ancestry. As such, they share the physical attributes of a cat. Their sleek muscular bodies are covered in short soft fur, which can resemble almost any pattern held by other cats. Their faces are truly feline, with tufted ears, and ferocious cat-like jaws. Zlagtog stand generally as tall as humans when standing erect. However, zlagtog rarely stand erect. Their stance is generally half-crouched, as if always ready to pounce.

Relations
Zlagtog are generally isolated from the "civilized" races. They only contact other races to barter, and this is usually the elves who share their forest home. Most humans have never seen a Zlagtog, nor will most humans in their lifetime. A zlagtog wandering through a human city would be the object of a great deal of pointing, and gawking.

Alignment
Zlagtog are almost always good. It is rare that a zlagtog be evil, and generally these members are expelled from zlagtog society.

Zlagtog Lands
Zlagtog live in isolated forests, as far from civilized culture as possible. They claim no ownership to their forest home.

Religion
Zlagtog don't generally worship god or gods, but things and ideas. A Zlagtog might worship the sun, or moon, rather than the god that represents those ideas. Usually, the gods grant the same benefits to the abstract worship the zlagtog give them as they do to the direct worship of the other races. Commonly worshipped gods are Sun gods and Nature gods.

Language
The ZLagtog language is made up of gutteral noises, growls, and purrs. It has no written form, and is also quite hard for any non-zlagtog to understand, let alone learn or speak. It is not an eloquent language, but is used only to express very basic and straightforward thoughts.

Names
Zlagtog names are not pronounceable by any non-zlagtog, so they usually take other names when dealing with members of other races. These names are usually made up of common things found in nature which they might revere or respect: things like Bloodmoon, Wolfstar, and Nightfang.

Adventurers
Zlagtog are playful and adventurous by nature. Many would even consider the normal life of hunting adventure in itself. Zlagtog very rarely venture out of their forests to see the rest of the world, those who do are unique and special individuals.

Zlagtog Racial Traits
  • +2dex +1wis -2int -1cha: Zlagtog are agile and wise, but lacking in refinement.
  • Medium-size: As Medium-sized creatures, zlagtog have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
  • Zlagtog base speed is 35
  • Night Vision: Zlagtog are night hunters, and can see in near darkness as well as they can in daylight. This vision includes all but absolute darkness, which only occurs in completely sealed areas, and deep underground. Zlagtog also have an inability to see colors, as their eyes are concentrated on picking up movements in a wide range of lighting conditions.
  • +2 racial bonus to Listen and Spot checks. Zlagtog have the alertness of their feline ancestry.
  • Automatic languages: Common and Zlagtog. Bonus languages: Elven, Gnome, Goblin, Orc, and Sylvan. Zlagtog generally only learn the languages of other for bartering purposes.
  • Favored Class: Ranger. Zlagtog are at home in nature, and as such make excellent protectors of nature.

The Magelins - Blessed of Suurdon Spellmist

The Magelin race is known for it’s mystery, magic and it’s total lack of common sense on matters not dealing with magic, their life’s blood. Living far beneath the soil for countless millenium has dulled their senses to the strange experiences of the surface world and as such many are mysterious, while others are more than generous with everything and are quick to trust their newly found friends under the sun. Magelins are known for their mastery of magic in just about every aspect. Magic is in their everyday life, their own houses have enchanted floors which remove pain from tired feet, ceilings which cool the air to comfortable temperatures and fantastic walls which display magical animations that the Magelin people call "Art". Most Magelins are outgoing and friendly to those they do not know, as a popular creed among the magical diminutive people is "Trust everyone until they prove themselves not worthy of your trust."

Personality
Magelins, like other intelligent beings, are known for their myriad moods and natures. However, most Magelins are friendly or at least civil to those they do not know and are downright generous to those that they claim to have friendship with. Magelins value magic and hold respect for any other race which claims mastery over the mysterious forces of the unknown. Magelins are very meager in most mundane possessions and keep only what they believe they need to master their own arts of magic. Most will only keep items of magic and refuse any mundane weaponry or equipment if magical accouterments are present which serve the same purpose. Magelins are also known for their efficiency in thinking and problem solving, except when it comes to surface matters, as they are still a new race to the world above and thus have very little experience dealing with other races and their cultures.
Magelins are also pressed by the God, Suurdon Spellmist, to teach magic to any who wish to learn. Most magelin Wizards will be accompanied by much younger human, magelin and elven apprentices.

Physical Description
Magelins stand only 3 to 4 and a half feet tall and are rather rotund and hairy. They are often mistaken for gnomes and dwarves in basic physical appearance and are sometimes as heavy or even more heavy than a human or a dwarf. Magelin women are slightly shorter and more willowy in appearance. Magelins males are extremely proud of their bodily hair, much to the point of almost covering every piece of flesh (except their hands) in it. Many have been noted to have floor length beards and hair so long and arranged as to appear like a lion’s mane. Female Magelins are surprisingly hairless compared to their men, and in fact are noted for their beauty among the surface races despite the fact that they are extremely short. They leave their hair extremely long and pulled back and do not possess the male Magelin’s bulbous and pronounced nose or beard, nor does their hair possess the mane-like quality of the men. Magelin women typically wear their nails extremely long and sharpened to wicked points. The men are noted for using their beards as a storage place for scrolls, wands, rings and other magical trinkets which can be tied or somehow fastened to their facial hair.
A typical Magelin’s skin is a pale white to a light brown in color and is soft, much like a babies as magic does most of the work in any Magelin settlement. Hair colors range from stark white to pitch black with all the spectrums and shades included. Eyes are usually strangely colored and virtually every color can be found among the populous.
It has been observed that the typical magelin has feline looking facial features beneath their hair which could explain the male’s mane-like locks, except for the male’s long nose. This similarity to cats can be seen much more apparent in the women who do not grow the long hair.

Relations
Magelins trust everyone they meet the first time. Their Book of Creeds demands that they offer everyone they meet a chance for friendship and trust. However, some races have taken advantage of this and thus have earned the enmity of the Magelin Race. Magelins do not like Deep Gnomes and the feeling is mutual, they also do not like the Drow. Both of these races have one waged war on Magelin society, the first for mining rights and the later over the Magelin’s secrets of magic.
A human’s life is a blink of an eye to a Magelin as the diminutive people are perhaps the longest living creatures on the planet, not reaching middle age near to 5,000 years of age and the oldest living Magelin is known to have lived close to 15,000 years before finally expiring of a magical virus known as the Enchanter’s Plague. It is hard for a Magelin to get acquainted to a human, much less forge a long standing friendship. Human Mages, however, have been known to make friends with these magical people much easier than those with no knowledge of magic.
Elves and the Magelins are still getting to know each other. The Magelin people are still wary of the elves because of the actions of their dark skinned brethren in the Eldritch Wars of 1324. However many of the willowly elven people have fell in love with the Magelin race to the point of actually inviting many of the small ones to live with them. Elves note that Magelins are masters of magic, yet they tend to have a deep respect for nature and a curious wonder of the surface environments that not even their young elven children possess.
Halflings could care less about Magelins. As far as the hair footed people are concerned, the Magelin people are just another race to spend long nights of talking and smoking with. Half Orcs and Magelins do not get along as most half-orcs distrust magic and their isn’t one Magelin that doesn’t have impressive magic of some kind or aspire to one day. Dwarves also are wary of the spell casters in general so they naturally have some dislike for the Magelin way of life, however, Dwarves will usually give any non-gobinoid a chance to win their trust. Gnomes are despised by most magelin people, however, many of the surface gnomes have proven themselves different than their underground dwelling kin and the Arcanoi Council has as such receded the Blood Order against the race, but an uneasy peace still resides between the gnomes of the surface and the Magelin people.

Alignment
Magelins tend toward a more organized way of life and are thus lean more toward a lawful alignment and often are either good or neutral. However, a sect of Mages within the council is supportive of black magic, which, despite the heinous actions of those who employ it, they are still welcomed in any Magelin city as they are practitioners of magic like any other Magelin.

Magelin Lands
The Magelin people are a race of underground dwellers. Having been hidden beneath the ground by a God of Magic, they were trapped miles and miles beneath the soil for millennia until they finally cracked the surface and traveled into the lands of light. While they believe they have escaped their imprisonment by the God, they still find themselves living in the huge sprawling underground metropolises of their ancestors and history. Most Magelin cities are at least 300 to 500 miles wide and long and are located in magically strengthened caverns supported by mountain-sized stalagmite and stalactites which house a fully powered mythal meant to lengthened life of the Magelin inhabitants, to increase magical spells and to make life for them more comfortable in general. The mythal also allows the Arcanoi Council to control the people and act as goverment. Magelin houses are of all shapes and sizes, but most choose to live in cramped elaborate tower apartments made from crafted stone and metal. More powerful and rich Magelins live in towers of their own and open space is almost as precious in these huge cities as any gold or silver trinket.
Magelins encountered in other lands can almost be assured to be adventurers or diplomats of the Arcanoi Council.

Religion
Magelin’s will be seen openly worshiping the Gods of Magic on any world they are encountered on. In the Forgotten Realms campaign setting they can be found holding reverence for Mystra (Good), Zanatose (Evil) and Azuth (Neutral) and can be found elsewhere worshiping their creator God Suurdon Spellmist, The Father Mage. It is thought that the Father Mage is actually an avatar of Mystryl, the once Goddess of Magic who was thought to have been reborn as Mystra. The Magelins speak otherwise of the history of Mystryl and say that a fragment of the, her male half, was thrown to the depths of the earth to give birth to their race. This broken avatar imprisoned itself beneath the ground with it’s own spells and was forever alone, until it created the first Magelin. It also gave itself the name, Suurdon Spellmist, and a new form, that of a squat gnome looking male covered in hair. Thus the Magelin people were created and thrived miles beneath the soil while the world above them continued to turn and change.

Language
Magelins can speak common, drow, deep gnome and Eldritchoss, the language of the Magelins. There are many a magelin scholar traveling the lands above bringing back strange and wonderful tongues to teach to their young for the coming of the Exodus that many adult Magelins know will happen when their children are grown. Magelins, being a curious race, will attempt to find the unknown and solve the greatest mysteries. Well, the children see the surface as a great mystery and hope to someday travel the lands of light themselves.
Magelin script, called "Arcane Scratchings" is an almost indecipherable writing that only Magelins can read correctly. In fact, they can read their own writing quite easily which amazes most surface people, who suffer from great migraine head aches just by looking at it for a few minutes. Many powerful spells are written in this language and it is a legend among mages that any spell scribed on a scroll that is written in the Magelin language is enhanced in some way.

Magelin Names
Magelin names are rather comical in pronunciation as they have a good amount of "urbles" and "ibbles" mixed in. A Magelin receives it’s formal name when it casts it’s first spell which usually happens around the age of 120 (Still rather young for a Magelin, around 2 years old in human standards). Till then most parents call their children by phrases of endearment such as "Magic One" or "Sweet Spell".
Male Names: Common male names are Squibble, Burgle, Doofur, Loormas, Ivoormertle and Flatwoort.
Female Names: Common female names are Seroondle, Morai, Drooble, Lipoodule, Ooraina, and Yoorma.
Family Names: Common House names are: Spellthrower, Blacktome, Eye’O’Newt, Bluespell, Flamecast, and Fingerflinger.

Adventurers
Magelins take up adventuring out of sheer curiosity of what lies on the surface above them. Many a Magelin wishes to see the magic of the world above and will wander almost aimlessly unless taken in by more experienced adventurers. Once a Magelin finds a fellow spell caster it will be damned near impossible for that mage to rid his or herself of the little one unless they outright attack them (Something most good aligned mages won’t do). Magelins will try to take up stock as the party’s "arcane" expert, even if they don’t want one. Magelins adventure to increase their skills, magic, knowledge and contingent of friends.

Magelin Racial Traits
  • +2 Intelligence, +1, -2 Strength: Magelins are extremely intelligent, but due to their large girth (males) or their fragile forms (females) they suffer in the strength department. What would a person need with physical prowess when everything they want or need is but a spell away?
  • Small Sized: Magelins, like gnomes, are a race of small height and as such gain a +1 to Armor Class, +1 size bonus on attack rolls and a +4 bonus on Hide checks, but they must use smaller weapons than humans or elves and their lifting and carrying limits are three quarters of those of medium size.
  • Magelin base speed is 15 for males and 30 for females
  • Infravision: Like in second edition D&D, Magelins have lived in the dank and dark corridors of the deep underdark for centuries. This has caused their eyes to pick up latent heat signatures of the surrounding area allowing them to see almost perfectly in the dark no matter how much light is present.
  • +3 racial bonus to all saves versus spell like effects and magic. Magelins are so familiar with magic that they have developed a 6th sense about all spells.
  • +2 racial bonus on Spell Craft and Concentration checks.
  • +1 racial bonus to on attack rolls against elves and gnomes. Particularly Deep Gnomes and Drow Elves.
  • +4 racial bonus of Spot checks as Magelins have eagle-like acute vision.
  • Automatic Languages: Eldritchoss, Common, Drow and Deep Gnome. Bonus Languages: None, Magelins are a new race and they must learn new languages while adventuring or learning.
  • Spell Like-Abilities: All Magelins are classified at birth as Sorcerers and are instilled with magic spells and potions while still in the womb. These give the Magelin it’s impressive magical abilities. All Magelins are sorcerers, whether or not the player wished to advance in this class is up to them, but they must pick their 1st level sorcerer spells during character creation. This class is not their favored class however as most Magelins like the hard work involved with wizardry as it teaches discipline, but it doesn’t not count against them when it comes to XP penalties. In addition to this, once every 6 levels attained in a spell casting class, the Magelin can pick one spell in memory to become an innate ability that requires no components and is cast as a free action in any round it is used. All innate abilities have the same range, duration, target etc. of the original spell.
  • Favored Class: Wizard, A multi-classed Magelin’s wizard class does not count against them when determining whether or not he or she suffers and XP point penalty. Magic is in everyday life for a Magelin and the class comes to the character naturally. Many Magelin/Sorcerer/Priests and Mage/Sorcerers exist in common society. While Magelins are wizards at heart, all 1st level Magelin characters are required to be Sorcerers, as they must learn the magic and discipline of the Wizard class by the hands of a teacher or through experience. (Meaning they have to gain enough experience points in the Sorcerer Class to finally multi-class as a Sorcerer/Wizard)

Magelins are a creation of KingOfChaos. Any non-personal use of this race without his permission is forbidden(illegal).
