House Rules

1. You must respond within one week of e-mail or you will be NPCd and the game will go on.  Major posts are every three days, faster if everyone responds.  Feel free to always go back and respond to any posts or questions that are placed in that time period. If you have not done any of the above, the following criteria must be met:

 

2. When you send me anything game related to me alone, make sure you have TOTD in the subject line since I use filters.

 

3. If you should develop a personal problem with a player then come to me with your beef and we will try and work something out.

 

4. There is no such this as favoritism.   If I hear any claims of this, you will be immediately removed from the game.   End of story.

 

5. If you know in advance that you will be gone for a long period of time then please let me know. Should it come up last minute then try to get a message to someone in the group.

 

6. When I hand out experience it will be awarded for the following:

When you get these numbers, for those of you who are multi-classed, don't split them! I have already done that for you. I will not, however, be factoring in any of the 10% bonuses you would get for high stats.

 

7. House and character information on this webpage are not entirely general knowledge.  If you think you should know something about another House, then ask me.  Otherwise, you do not know it.  Additionally, for the most part, you control your Houses.  However, the character you play is what   you will primarily be running.

 

8. Every tenth turn will be a pass turn.   What this means is that I will state that a certain amount of time will be passed between this turn and the next.  This could be as short as a month or as long as a year.  The purpose of this is so that mages and clerics have time to research, and that warriors can have time to practice or do little side adventures.  The turn before you will be informed as to how much time will pass.  You can then instruct me as to what your character will be doing for that time.  You can do such things as quests and specializations, which are detailed below.

Quests
This is a listing of the Quests types from safest to most hazardous for those individuals who go on them. Quests can be a requirement (as the Blooding) or a method to gain experience. Magic items and even artifacts can be found on a Quest but Quests can also be deadly. The more difficult the Quest, the longer the individual will be gone, but also the greater gains.

Noble                 2-4 months
Daring              4-6 months
Dangerous       4-8 months
Forbidding       4-10 months

Most of these will be done in single posts telling you what happens unless you have ICQ, Web RPG or AOL Chat. Then we can simply do them that way.

SPECIALIZATION
Specialization training can only be done in a noble house in a War room. Specialization training requires 6 months, and the gold cost varies on specialization area. Specialization increases the nobles prowess in the area of specialization and also augments their skills. What does this mean in game terms? Well it is a roll of the dice. You could gain levels, more attacks, increased damage with spells, or free weapons slots. A noble can only specialize in one area.

Here is a list of the areas you can specialize in:
R&D: Research
BAT: Battle Prowess
MAG: Magical Skill
REL: Religion
DIP: Diplomacy

 

SIDE NOTE-

Okay, I wanted to say a few things that arent rules. This game is very large, in the sense that you have a whole city that you can play with. If people wish to do backgrounds on their Houses, create their families, House compounds, military and slave forces, or heck, if you want to go all out and do a House webpage, GO FOR IT!! This will earn you extra experience for the game, and in time, I will have a web domain that they all can be set up on. Just make sure you clear it with me first, but youll find that for things like this, Im usually pretty lenient. Hell, you guys are in the top several ruling Houses! As the game progresses, you may find that you are not enjoying your character as much or want to do something new or different, and thats where all of the above will come in. Heres a chance to make up any sort of backup character you may want to use. This game was designed to expand and go where you, the players, want it to go.  If your character should gain the desire to become a Matron Mother or House Patron or Weapons master or whatever, dont feel that you cant do this. Youre more than welcome to try.  And if you should succeed, congratulations! That opens up a whole new wealth of opportunities.  In time I may add more groups and other DMs to the city. Or, should any of you feel up to DMing, thats fine with me. This game is meant to be fun for all, and the possibilities are near limitless. So if you ever get an idea for a travelling merchant, an illithid city or anything else you can think of, send it my way and you may see it sometime in the game.
