Background:
Eight years before the overturning of House GimethDiran, which resulted in a new Matron Mother and position as the fourth House of Velddrinnsshar, Matron Mother Arireven ruled the House with the guidance of an illithilich who took great pleasure laughing at the Houses humiliation behind its back. The then fourth House, House SolonnaYsibrylla, ruled in the dark arts of necromancy.

As Matron Mothers eldest daughter, Kaigodda, grew older, the young drow grew to realize that her mother was leading the House poorly, and that she would be the one to do something about it. As the years grew, she became very skilled as an assassin, but always she longed to become a necromancer. The two sisters born after her were fools- they were blind as to how their mother was destroying what had been a great House, many decades before. Her next two sisters were not strong enough to be of any assistance to her, merely promising neutrality in whatever should happen, so she had to wait, and plot.

Kaigoddas aid finally arrived though, in a startlingly precocious young child named Olerathiel. Born the sixth daughter, Olerathiel and her actions were often overlooked by Matron Mother Arireven and her cruel ways. As the child grew old enough, she and Kaigodda would go into a secret chamber and study corpses so that when the Matron Mother was killed, she would be prepared to enter Arach-Tlabbar.

As the two sisters plotted, Olerathiel went and seduced one of the nobles of SolonnaYsibrylla. Believing that she loved him, he agreed to kill her Matron Mother, and in turn she would kill his. One fateful night a month later, he snuck into the chamber of House GimethDirans Matron Mother and killed her. Olerathiel had conveniently rid the hall of guards by lacing the servants food with sleep poison. He rushed out of the chamber, bloody dagger with his House emblem on it. As he rushed out, the girl began screaming, Kaigodda waiting to wake up the guards and servants.

After a very brief meeting of the Council, it was decided that House SolonnaYsibrylla had committed one of the largest sins of the city- it was responsible for the death of one of the Matron Mothers of the City. Kaigodda gleefully took her position as the new Matron Mother, and demanded the death of the assassin as well as the destruction of his House.

It was quickly done, with several of the nobles and many slaves quickly trading allegiances to the new fourth House. Since then, the House has been working as quickly as possible to build up its strength, praying that no House will decide to attack until it is much stronger and staying neutral in most disputes.
